O. Echevarria, Flies airplanes in his free time; builds five star law office buildings in downtown D.C. mechanical engineer.
J. Ammons, Operations research engineer. Less than three years out of engineering school, captured a mortgage in D.C.’s hot real estate market.
B. Wibisono, electrical engineer. When not doing electrical engineering, did building reconstruction & networked communications for his brick n mortar business. Learning? On the job.. now traveling in Asia playing golf and starting a professional photography company.
U. Velauthippillai, sophomore in sciences, Georgetown University. At age 11 was getting A grades in computer classes at Georgetown University. Hand coded HTML-based websites before age 10—between Pokemon episodes.
H. Shimbo, alien. When moving into first apartment in graduate school, built their own furniture. Started Cornell graduate school, age 20—after hydrology thesis, switched to science-engineering, right after graduation.
M. Velauthippillai, professor.When filling out U.S. graduate school applications, had never seen a computer. Field of study for this mathematician? Computer sciences. Superstar now has endowed chair in computer sciences, Georgetown University.
M. Dieter, nuclear engineer. At Tompkins County Community College, got a welding certificate to build an engine into his car. Later that year, his $100 Carmen Gia is his hot wheels for sophomore year, Cornell University.
S. Fujikawa, mechanical & aerospace engineer. Builds R2D2 compact satellites, flies planes he builds – using power from torque of rubber bands.
